Purpose

The purpose of this article is to provide troubleshooting steps for issues connecting to the eChat (Adobe Connect).


Question

Why can't I connect to eChat (Adobe Connect)?


Answer

For the Adobe Connect window to appear, you will first need to enable pop-ups. You can do this via your browser's options menu, or by clicking the link into the eChat room while holding the Control(Windows)/Command(Mac) key.

You will also need Adobe Flash player to run chat rooms properly. The link below will bring you to the main download page of the plugin.

During installation, make sure to deselect the option to install anything other than Flash Player, such as the optional Google Toolbar that is included as part of the installation.


Additional Information

You may need to remove any/all previous versions from your computer first, and for which you may require the services of a local computer technician if you are unable to do so yourself. It is OK to have both Adobe Flash Player 17 ActiveX and Adobe Flash Player 17 Plugin installed together - Internet Explorer uses ActiveX and Firefox uses Plugin. Please note that in the previous sentence, the number 17 represents the version of Flash Player and may be different on your machine – as long as it is the most current version.
